Another Transition

Want to know how much above average the region is right now? For 7 a.m. on the 17 January, Toledo is sitting at 20° above normal, with Detroit at 27° above normal and Fort Wayne hitting 30° above normal. Buffalo at 17° above normal, Erie is 22° above normal and Cleveland is 24° above normal. So a very warm morning nonetheless. Will this warm weather last much longer? Not entirely.

We're watching a strong cold front heading towards the region, where is it really dropping temperatures behind it. This front is going to approach the region by the start to this afternoon and we're going to watch temperatures start to fall into the middle 30's this afternoon in the west. Eastern half of the region wont see the front until this evening, so those temperatures will fall normally. Now the overnight lows tonight are going to be in the 20's once again, and really they are going to depend on the exact timing of the front, so I will keep the temperatures where they are in the forecasts for now. But will this front bring us any snow snow in the region?

A little in the west, some in the east. When the cold front passes through, we're going to watch wrap around moisture turn to snow showers around the centre of the low pressure and this is going to briefly effect the western half of the region. The snow showers in the western half of the region wont last long, so we'll go with all accumulations under an inch if we even get any. The snow showers will taper off by midnight in the west and we'll go with some brief clearing. Now the eastern half of the region is going to watch the cold front push over the lake waters and this is going to produce a brief lake effect snow shower event. The snow showers in the east wont last that long either and we'll go with general accumulations between tonight and tomorrow of about 1-3 inches. So nothing that much.

Temperatures tomorrow are going to be cooler as a high pressure attempts a build up to our south. This is going to allow to for temperatures to be cool tomorrow in the 20's for a high. Now this area of high pressure is going to keep us cool overnight tonight and possibly into Thursday, but on Thursday we're going to have a clipper type system push through the region and that is going to give us another chance of snow showers.

Then on Friday we're going to see another disturbance push through the region and that is going to give us another round of possible snow showers.

But over the weekend there will be some gradual warming in the temperatures and that is going to allow for temperatures to return to their above normal state in the pattern that we've been stuck in since November.

Forecasts have been revised and they'll be revised again around 11.30 a.m. this morning, and I'll have an update around that time as well. So make sure that you check back for updates. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
