No big major changes to the forecast this morning as things are generally going to plan. The warm front has passed through the region, and this is allowing for some above normal temperatures to enter the region. Temperatures today will be warmer than normal; around 50° for some places, possibly above 50° in the eastern half of the region, but this will be accompanied by clouds and rain showers.
Low pressure centre over in Indiana this morning, and that will pass through the region this afternoon, bringing a cold front across the region starting from west to east. The cold front won’t really make it into the eastern half of the region until this evening.
Rain showers will be likely ahead the low’s centre, but it looks as though the rain showers in the western half of the region are starting to lessen up as that low pressure centre nears the Fort Wayne and Toledo areas. I am not going to adjust the forecast quite yet for this afternoon, just going to wait and see what happens over the next hour.
Now to the question a lot of you in the eastern half of the region are wondering this morning: How much lake effect snow? Well, if all you’re looking at this morning is the extended forecasts – which you should be checking them out – then you might think that it is going to be a lot of snow. In fact, I am not expecting that it will be that much of an event. In fact, this will start off as lake enhanced rain, and then it won’t really switch over to lake enhanced snow until Thursday night. The ground will be warm and temperatures will be barely below 32° which will allow for some of that snow to melt on contact. It will also be a localized event of snow showers, and they will be light.
The front that is going to be responsible for this wont be very strong on Thursday night and it will be competing with a surface low pressure that will track off to the east – barely – of the region. This too will start off as rain showers and then transition into a somewhat light snow event. So really, expect about an inch, maybe two at best, of snow between Thursday night and Saturday morning.
I’ll type more about our low pressure system that will affect the region on Thursday night and Friday morning during an update around 8.30 a.m. this morning. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
