Regional Weather for Tomorrow Night through Monday
Tomorrow night, the ridge of high pressure will begin to slide out of the region as the high pressure to our south begins to slide off to the east. This is going to put the western half of the region under the SW flow of the approaching trough, whereas the eastern half of the region will barely be seeing it. The surface low pressure at this time will still be off to our west, but the effects of it will start to be seen as clouds begin to roll in after midnight. Looks likely mostly cloudy skies for a good portion of the region tomorrow night and towards sunrise.
Sunday, the low pressure at the surface, ahead of the upper level trough, will come barrelling out the west with its trailing cold front. The low pressure centre is going to start by introducing rain showers into the region, but the cool air will quickly over run and the precip will begin to transition. At this point, I am not expecting that there will be any sleet or freezing rain, but the question of how long the transitional period is going to be is still a little questionable depending on where in the region you are. The cold front will cross through the region in the morning and this is going to introduce the much cooler air into the region from the trough. At the same time, precip around the low will become all snow as well. The cold front will continue its journey across the region, turning all the precip into snow by the late afternoon. Temperatures are going to gradually drop as the upper level trough starts to enter the region.
Sunday night, the upper trough is going to the enter the region, putting the eastern half of the region under a NW flow with much cooler air riding over the much warmer lake waters. Looks like the beginning of a lake effect snow event will start up overnight as the cold front continues to push eastward allowing for further cooler air to filter down into the region. The upper level trough is going to allow for the weather to remain a little unsettled in the western half of the region as well. It looks like we'll be seeing some scattered snow showers in the western half of the region overnight with temperatures falling into the lower 20's...perhaps lower.
Monday, the lake effect snow in the eastern half of the region really gets going while the snow showers in the western half of the region begin to taper off. The upper trough though is going to shuffle a little bit to the east which is going to usher in some much cooler air into the region. At this point, the only snow fall accumulations I gave in the region was Erie where on Monday we could be expecting about 1-3 inches of daytime snow accumulation. Now this isn't it, as you guys will still have another day of lake effect snow.
I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
