We'll try to get a picture of a surface chart up here in just a bit.
Well the high pressure located over Minnesota will soon diminish and move out of the area which is going to open the door for a realively weak low pressure over Wyoming. This low will slide across the Plain's and then enter Minnesota later today. From there, the low pressure will head southeast and pass through Illinois on Saturday. So what does this mean for us here in the Great Lakes region? Well it simple, we could get a little snow on Saturday in places like Toledo, Fort Wayne, Lima and possibly South Bend. Let's take a look at Jacob's and my forecasts:
Toledo: Mostly cloudy today with the chance for some scattered snow flurries. Highs today only in the mid 30's. Tonight will be still mostly cloudy with lows down into the mid 20's. Tomorrow, we'll see that low pressure move through the region and we'll be seeing some scattered snow showers, however I am not expecting much in terms of accumulation (an inch at the most). Highs on Saturday will also be in the mid 30's. Saturday night we'll still see those scattered snow showers with lows down into the lower 20's.
Erie: Well there is a possibility of about 2-4 inches of snow falling between today and tonight, otherwise mostly cloudy today with highs in the lower 30's. Tonight people in Erie can expect lows in the upper 20's. Saturday, the low pressure will not be effecting you much, but because it is Erie, I am calling for scattered snow flurries tomorrow with highs near 30°. Saturday Night, we'll see still a chance for snow flurries, otherwise mostly cloudy with lows down in the upper 20's.
Fort Wayne: Scattered snow flurries this morning, otherwise mostly cloudy with highs in the lower 30's. Tonight, we could expect some more snow flurries and mostly cloudy skies with lows down into the low-mid 20's. Saturday, that low pressure will be effecting you and we could see about an inch of snow fall between Saturday and Saturday night, but otherwise on Saturday highs in the lower 30's and lows in the mid 20's.
For the beginning of next week I expect to see much lower temperatures in the morning hours, places like Fort Wayne and Toledo could see lows into the upper teens on Monday and possibly even colder weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. High pressure will give us that cooler weather. I am going to keep the chances for scattered snow showers for Sunday and into Monday. Otherwise a fairly nice weekend and beginning to the week, aside from cooler weather and some scattered snow showers, everything looks good (well, actually I like the snow and cold weather so naturally the rest of the weekend beginning of teh work week is near perfect).
What is Jacob forecasting for his cities, well let's go on and take a look:
Buffalo, I hope you have stayed safe through all of the crazy snow totals I heard about yesterday. Some regions have hit 3 feet or more of snow, especially in the souther suburbs. For now at least, it appears that the lake effect snow will not be as strong. Highs today in the low to mid 30s with just a slight chance of snow showers, and tonight there will be a low in the upper 20s with a chance of snow showers. Saturday will be almost a complete replica of today, only with maybe a few more snow showers scattered about, and Saturday night it will get down into the mid 20s with snow showers still all around. Sunday it looks like the lake effect snow could ramp back up, so make sure to check back in then!
Green Bay, you should have very sunny skies today with highs in the mid 20s, so it will be quite chilly. Tonight the first snow from the "North Dakota Clipper" [the weak low pressure] low pressure system will move into the area, but it should not get too heavy. I expect snow totals of 1-2 inches throughout the region, with lows right around the 20 degree mark. Saturday there will be some snow shower remnants in the morning, but those should move out by the afternoon, and temperatures may hit 30. Saturday night it looks like skies will begin to clear and temperatures should drop below 20. After that, it looks like tranquil but COLD weather will dominate the region. Check back in for updates about the Clipper moving in tonight.
Detroit, today will be mostly cloudy and cold, with highs in the upper 20s. Tonight, clouds will spread across the region, keeping temperatures from bottoming out, so lows should stay in the mid 20s. Saturday will have a high right around freezing with some scattered snow showers from an approaching Clipper [the weak low pressure], and Saturday night will have a low once again in the mid 20s with isolated snow shower remnants from the Clipper. Sunday temperatures will get right around freezing again with partly cloudy skies, and then temperatures drop only slightly with growing clouds Sunday night, yielding to a chance of snow on Monday. Keep checking back for more information about both of these chances of snow.
So, winter is upon us here in the Great Lakes region, snow and cool weather is expected for much of the Great Lakes region this weekend and into the work week. I'll be keeping you up to date as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
