Irina is now down to 988 mbs as of 8:00 p.m. tonight. So far, the strongest of the named systems that we've had so far at the GLWX. Irina will continue to treck up NE towards Quebec overnight tonight, right now she is located just to the west of Niagra Falls. WE'll have more forecasts and updates coming up in the morning, but for now here is a look at some of our forecasts and advisories for you all.
THE BIGGEST CONCERN: Will not be the snow so much as the blowing snow. Winds are going to start really increasing here across the cities of Fort Wayne, Toledo, Cleveland and Detroit as this colder air rushes in from the north and west. Wind gusts upwards to 40-45 mph are possible in the above mentioned places. Wind chill values will dip below 0° after midnight, so if you're going to outside...more power to you, rock on! But in general, make sure those windows are closed tight around your house, make sure your car windows are closed...and I can not remember if it is the plants or the pets I am suppose to bring in, but just bring 'em inside anyways.
Toledo: For tonight, look for those snow showers to be scattered and off an on all night tonight. An additional 1-2 inches of snow is possible. Blowing snow will be the biggest concern so take it easy on the roadways after dark tonight. Lows will be near 15° and after midnight we could see windchill values below 0°. Winds could also gust up to 45 mph between tonight and tomorrow. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower 20's and we'll see mostly cloudy skies tomorrow with scattered snow showers in the morning hours. Windy tomorrow as well.
Fort Wayne: For tonight, look for snow showers possible all night tonight with about 1-2 more inches of snow possible. Some places could see 3 inches in heavier snow bands. Lows tonight will be near 15° as well and look for winds gusting upwards to 45 mph between tonight and tomorrow. Wind chill values also below 0° after midnight. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with highs only near 20° and scattered snow showers possible all day for you guys. Total snow fall accumulation by tomorrow morning will be about 3-6 inches in most places across norhteastern Indiana.
Erie: Turning into snow showers tonight, expect about 1-3 inches of snow possible and lows in the lower 20's. Also, lake effect snow is likely tomorrow so be ready for about 4-8 inches of the snow. Blowing snow is also a concern again for you guys tomorrow, the winds wont be as strong as they could be, look for gusts maybe up to 35 mph tomorrow afternoon.
Buffalo: it still looks like you should not expect a crazy amount of snow. You are in the eastern part of the low, so it should be raining right now if you look outside. The rain will mix with and turn over to snow late this evening into the overnight time period, and you could see 1-3 inches of accumulation with this storm. Other than that, I would not expect much from Irina. However, once the Lake Effect snows start up, then things could be interesting.
Detroit: you are in a Winter Weather advisory, and snow is currently falling at a moderate rate outside. The winds will be picking up shortly, and they will really blast in some cold air. I expect an additional 3-6 inches of snow on top of what may have already fallen, as the precipitation is going to stay awhile. We should see 2-4 inches today, and 1-3 inches tonight. The winds will also really blow around the snow, so I cannot rule out snow drifts up to a foot or more, or blizzard like
Green Bay: my forecast for your region is holding true. We have already seen loads of snow fall, and it is not over yet. There will be widespread backlash from Irina today, resulting in another 1-3 inches of snow on top of what has already fallen. Also, it looks like the winds will really pick up, so once again blowing snow will be a problem today and tonight. It looks like we hit the snow amounts perfectly here at Great Lakes Weather, as the National Weather Service said in their blizzard warning that they expect 8-14 inches of snow once this is all said and done, and that is quite an impressive amount. Keep it here for the latest on the storm.
Keep it here for Irina updates and more, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
