Irina is turning up the winds along the central and eastern Great Lakes region. Blowing snow will be the biggest concern today for most places, followed by low windchills and lake efffect snow.
First off, the winds will be strong, gusting upwards to 45 mph at times from Fort Wayne over to Cleveland, so that means a lot of blowing and drifting snow. Winds will be north, which will make it feel even more colder than it really is. So be cautious on those country roads because blowing snow will be everywhere today across the southern Great Lakes region.
Next is the windchill, which will punish us all. I love the cold, but I hate the windchill. It is what the air feels like thanks to wind, and it can give you frostbite in as little as 10 minutes. HOWEVER, we are not expecting the windchill to be that low today. In the morning especially, the windchill will be below 0° and you will feel it. Throughout the day today across places again from Fort Wayne on up to Cleveland you'll see windchills below 0 early this morning, then they will stay in the single digits for most of the day today.
And last we'll have the lake effect snow which will be possible across places that border the southern shores of Lake Michigan. And also, the Lake effect snow will be likely in places like Erie, Pa. today where snow accumulations today of 4-8 inches are likely.
So, the three main concerns for the day today are: blowing snow, windchills and lake effect snow. I'll keep you up to date as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
