A decent sized low pressure system is moving NE out of the northern Plains this morning, and in doing so it is going to be bringing in some interesting weather with it.
The low pressure has a warm front which has stalled out over the Detroit area and through Chicago, but this will start moving once again later this morning as that low pressure finishes its directional turn and starts continues to move towards the Hudson Bay area. This low pressure is a nice sized one, and right behind it is a nice sized high pressure. The low, however, as expected, has a cold front trailing off it that is extending down into the Plains. This cold front is going to be what'll introduce those storms into the region later tonight and tomorrow.
Looking at some of the conditions around the front, it appears that we might actually get a storm line, not a scattered event, but the biggest threat will be some gusty winds between 50 and 60-mph, which is nothing unusual, maybe some small hail. The front will enter the western half of the region late this evening, after sunset, and the storms should start to enter the region anytime after that (I am going to be doing a little bit of monitoring with this front, so I'll give you a better idea in a little bit). The cold front will move steadily from the west to east (naturally) and by sunrise the storm chances should be good in Cleveland, and just starting in Erie, and barely noticable in the Buffalo area.
The front will pull out of the western half of the region by tomorrow afternoon, leaving calm and cooler air behind it (cool enough that upper 50's for a low tomorrow night and Monday night is what I am expecting in the western half of the region). The storms will linger into the Cleveland area for a bit tomorrow afternoon and it won't be until the evening that they start tapering off in the Erie and Buffalo areas.
So generally, a rather simple, classic, forecast. Cold front moving towards the region...hot weather today, storms tonight and calm and clear weather in the region for the start of the week. I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
