Rain this weekend...?

Forecast in the region is going to be a little bit on the tedious side for the next few days, but then it will get interesting. In fact, there is a chance that places in the region might actually get some decent amounts of rain this weekend. In a short way, here is what we're looking at in the region:
An area of high pressure will be dominating the regional weather for the next days while an upper level trough starts to move into the Plains and dig itself into the Plains during Thursday and Friday. This trough will allow for its associated surface low pressure to develop and attach itself to the the stationary front running down along the SE states. This will keep the rain to the south of the region. But things start to get a little tricky late in the day Friday and into the overnight Friday.

Friday night that low pressure is going to start to move to the northeast as that high pressure in our region starts to fall apart. This means that the stationary front will start to get dragged a little bit northward as a warm front which will push the the rain showers closer to the forecast area...but the main event will be the rain showers directly associated with the low pressure. The low pressure is going to wobble at first as it starts moving, and this wobble will be rather important.

If the low shifts its course in any direction, even by just 50-miles or so, it will really have an impact on the forecast. The rain showers are going to be close together and there will more than likely be a precip/cloud shield with this...not just a random unorganized bunch of rain showers. The low will move NE and right now I am putting it through Ohio, running through Ohio from Cincy up to Cleveland. If this happens, then the majority of the region is going to see rain. But if the low pressure decides to side swipe us and instead run from Cincy to...say...Pittsburgh or some area that isn't close to the region...then the region will miss out on a bit of the rain. If the low decides to bisect Pennsylvania instead...then the eastern half gets rain...the western half gets just another typical. But for now, I am actually going to go with the first choice, the Ohio course, and I will work om that a little bit more throughout the day.

A reminder that my extended forecasts are up and posted on the site www.glweather.blogspot.com so do be sure that you check those out, and I'll be revising them around Noon today. Otherwise, for now, that's the weather!
