Noon Update

Upper level trough is moving towards the region this afternoon and this is going to be the main feature in the weather for the next 24-hours or so.

Right now, the trough itself is over the eastern Illinois area and is moving at a decent speed - for an upper level trough. This upper level trough is going to allow for some advection to take place over the next few hours, and as those temperatures start to rise a little bit we can expect to see the instability in the western half of the region to increase as well. However, there is one thing about this upper level trough that is plaquing today's forecast in the region: moisture.

The cold front has already passed through the western areas of the region - it did so earlier this morning - and that did in fact rob the region of some moisture. So as this trough moves into the region, it is going to find that it will have little moisture to work with. Regardless, some rain showers will start developing within the next couple of hours in the western half of the region and then make their way through the rest of the region this evening and into the overnight hours.

The rain showers - and a few storms mixed in there - won't be a washout, but they'll be scattered and they'll be around.

Then the upper level trough will exit the region and we'll go into the northwestern flow of the upper levels along with an upper level ridge and that will work in quieting the weather down in the region for the next couple of days...as well as dropping the temperatures a bit as well.

There is one more system that I am keeping an eye on that will effect the region on Mothers Day and I'll do some more work with that system and pass that information along as I go. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
