Weather in the region right now is trying to go to plan, right now the main thing is just waiting for the system. Looks like about 1-3 inches of snow possible in the western half of the region overnight tonight and then possibly another inch on top of that tomorrow morning in the Toledo area. Fort Wayne, you guys will get about an inch or two, and Detroit and Toledo will pick up around 1-3 tonight as mentioned. Cleveland and points to the east are going to be seeing a little bit more.As that cold front rushes over the warmer lake waters, that is going to be met with some gusty winds and some moisture in the lower levels and then some lake effect snow will develop. Looks like it’ll be a modest event with amounts decent, probably about 2-4, or maybe 3-6 inches of snow by the time all is said and done on Sunday. The system isn’t going to be a snow maker so much as it’ll be a wind event and a cooler temperature drop.
When that cold front passes through the region tonight, yes, you will feel its passage. The winds are going to make a sharp turn to the north and northwest and this will bring in some of that cooler air into the region overnight tonight. Those winds will be gusty, around 30-mph at times, but the fun wind won’t really show up until tomorrow morning and then again on Sunday morning in the region. Looking for gusts possibly on Sunday to be near 40-mph, which is normal.
Temperatures tomorrow in the region are going to be cool and a little bit below normal. Somewhere in the range of 10 to 15 degrees below normal for that matter and they are going to have a hard time getting past 20 for a high tomorrow in some spots. Depending on how gusty those winds remain tomorrow will also help in determining on whether or not those temperatures are going to recover from tonight’s lows of about 10-15.
Tomorrow night temperatures will also be down into the lower teens once again, so that is going to be something that’ll be fun.
The trickiest thing during the weekend forecast will be not only the lake effect snow showers, but the cloud cover in parts of the region. The clouds are going to be difficult and those are just going to be anything but fun to forecast for in the western half of the region. Looking at a couple short troughs to slide through the region over the weekend and start to the week which is going to make things rather interesting – but not too interesting.
So really, just a quick round of snow in the region tonight, mainly it’ll last about 12-hours at best if we’re lucky. Expecting to see temperatures to drop quickly once that front passes through this evening and then the winds will pick up quickly right behind it.
I’ll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
