It is like spring...

Things going suprisingly on track this morning throughout the region as rain showers are continuing to fall pretty much across the entire region (with the exception of Buffalo where the rain showers are less than an hour or so away). The rain showers falling across the region this morning are fairly moderate and steady with a few embedded storms to add to the rain fall totals. Temperatures across the region this morning are fairly chilly, however that warm front is about to pass through the region so expect that temperatures are going to be rising here within the region over the next couple hours or so. In fact, they are going to rise a bit, I am expecting that highs today in the western half of the region will actually near about 60-degrees this afternoon, despite the cloud cover and lingering precip that will be around.

The system that is causing all of this is our low pressure which is centered in the extreme northwest portion of Iowa this morning. Extending through the Davenport area and into the metro Indianapolis area is its warm front which is presently being lifted northward. The cold front that we're all waiting for is still back in the Missouri area and that thing is creating a difference of weather. Just off to the north of this low pressure centre, a blizzard is underway in South Dakota, and down in southern Illinois this morning they are tracking severe storms. So a very strong system nonetheless for this time of the year. Low pressure centre is being assisted by a closed off upper level low, and this is a typical signature that the low pressure at the surface is about to max out, go through occlusion and start weakening here over the course of the day. But nonetheless, it will still have ample moisture and continue its purpose.

The low pressure is going to push rain showers through the region, however looking at the 700-mb charts this morning and comparing them up with the charts and model runs, some drier air is being pulled inwards from the southern Plains and this will actually start to kill off the low's energy supply. Rain showers are going to fall apart throughout the region and start exiting, to a point where once the cold front arrives later this afternoon/evening...there won't be a whole lot it can do in the region...except drop the temperatures. System gets a bit more difficult to explain from this point onward, so I'll avoid that for now and save it for the Noon time post. But what can the region expect for the next couple of days in the region?

Rain showers are going to be likely this morning in the west and through the early afternoon in the eastern half of the region. Rain fall amounts will near a half inch, with locally higher amounts wherever an embedded storm finds itself. As the cold front works through the region, an additional flare up of rain showers will be possible, but nothing like what we're seeing right now. Lingering precip possible throughout the region as the system passes to the north during the night tonight and early tomorrow. A weak high pressure sets up, but then we're going to watch another system get ready to move into the region, and this one will be interesting. I'll type more about that system as I am running low on time this morning.

So nothing much happening in the region right now, other than the system I just typed about. I'll keep you updated as always. I'll be revising those forecasts around 7.30 a.m. this morning, so make sure that you check back for those. I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
