Winter on its way

The weather across the region is going to become very active over the course of tomorrow and Thursday as some winter weather will enter the region and give the region some snow...and some snow accumulation.

Because we're going to be seeing two seperate systems in the region, instead of doing a day by day synopsis, we're going to do divide the synopsis into systems. Here we go:

High pressure slipping to our south right now is going to enter the mid-Atlantic later today. This is going to allow for warm advection to take place in the region and we're going to be seeing above normal highs once again in the region as that high pressure ridge sets up in the region.

The first system is going to be that Texas that I am following this morning. A cut off low developed in Texas yesterday and this is still down in Texas, but it will begin to move later today. Its associated surface low pressure is down in the Gulf area of Texas and right now we're seeing a good amount of rain showers down in that area. Now this low pressure is going to weaken a little bit as it heads towards the region.

Tomorrow, we'll watch this low pressure move to the NE in attempts to stay ahead of an upper level trough, but it will actually get stuck in the flow of the trough a little bit later. This low pressure is going to introduce some warm advection into the region with the help of the high pressure. Tomorrow afternoon, the clouds and the scattered rain showers will start to enter the region. I am expecting that the east will definetly see some rain showers however there is still a little question as to how far to the west the rain showers will make it. I am going with widely scattered rain showers in the western half of the region overnight tomorrow, and I am keeping likely rain showers in the forecast for the eastern half of the region.

The second system:

An upper level trough crossing through the Plains right now has a low pressure centre riding through the northern Plains. This low pressure has a broad cold front that is going to cross through the Plains today and head towards the region tomorrow.

Tomorrow, we'll watch that trough dig further into the Plains and we'll be watching this low pressure start to enter the northern Great Lakes region.

Tomorrow night, this northern low pressure will pull up some of that warm air from the Texas low and the advection is going to be noticable. Cold front will start to cross through the Plains and head towards the region during this time with a cut off low developing in the northern Plains.

Thursday, the low pressure is going to slide through the northern Great Lakes region, thus producing snow showers. Some moisture is going to get stuck in the upper trough as it heads towards the region and this is going to allow for some additional snow showers to develop. We're going to watch that cold front push through the region tomorrow morning and afternoon, thus allowing for highs to occur in the mid morning and then in the west we'll start to watch some of those temperaturs in the west fall.

When this cold front passes the region, it'll be pushing that cool air over the lakes and the eastern half of the region will start to see a lake effect snow shower event developing and then becoming likely Friday.

This upper level trough is going to also introduce some much cooler temperaturs into the region really quickly and these temperatures are going to be well below normal.

This is just a brief synopsis of what is going to happen. Now, I'll have brief updates throughout the day, but mainly I'll be working on the forecasts throughout the day today. So be sure to check back for those extended forecasts. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
