No major changes to the forecast needed right now as things are mainly going to plan across the region. Snow showers making their way through the region - a few hours earlier than anticipated - but nonetheless moving. Havne't gottan any reports of big accumulations, and we'll basically stay around an inch in the western half of the region today. The eastern half of the region is going to pick up a little bit of accumulation later this afternoon as well, but those areas will mainly see about 1-3 inches with a few places getting 2-4 inches. We'll watch that cold front push the region this afternoon, which will cause the snow showers to taper off from the west to the east throughout the afternoon and the evening, and then we're going to watch some clearing take place this evening.
With some of that snow sticking around on the ground tonight and with the northwesternly flow of the winds coming down from the Plains, we're going to watch an area of high pressure briefly set up in the region and slide to the southwest of the forecast area. This will allow for some extra cooling to take place in the region and we're going to see places in the west fall into the lower teens and maybe around 10 tonight in some places.
Now the main focus tonight is going to my typical evening off - which isn't going to be happening this week as we're going to watch a wave of energy rush down from the NW along that flow and that is going to introduce possibly the first actual snow accumulation above an inch in the western half of the region. Looking at that short wave of energy to rush down on Friday evening and then last us into the morning on Saturday (save for about 12-hours for the east) and this is going to be a quick moving system. Snow showers associated with it will be moderate at times, but the accumulations are the only tricky part at this time.
For now, I have not put any snow fall totals in for Saturday (though they will be less than what Friday night will see) but I will do so a little bit later. We'll expect to see about 1-3 inches of snow overnight tomorrow in the western half of the region, and possibly an extra inch Saturday morning. For now, we'll just keep it all with 1-3 inches.
This system will pass through the eastern half of the region - though weakening very slowly - and this is going to produce probably the same amount of snow in the eastern half of the region. Because this wave of low pressure will not have a front (hence why it is called a wave) there isn't going to be a big chance for lake effect snow on the backside of this system, however a light/brief event could take place at the very end but that isn't my focus right now.
This evening will be interesting when it comes to the forecasts as I am going to touch up those snow fall totals and revise some of those temperatures. Mainly though, things going to plan so I see no need for an afternoon Post. My next Update will be this afternoon around 3.00 p.m. whereas my next post will not be until 8.30 p.m. or 9.00 p.m. this evening. For nowm I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checkihg back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
