This is the probably the most tense moment of the forecast right now, as we're close to it, yet we're far away at the same time. The cold front is moving towards the region right now, and this will enter the western half of the region later this afternoon, allowing for the temperatures to fall. At the same time, we're going to see precipitation getting caught around the low pressure centre which is over Michigan at this time. This moisture will wrap around the centre of the low and do its work with the approaching trough and thus the snow. The snow is already falling in Illinois this morning and will continue to do so. So lets go ahead and take a look at the weather in the region, solely for the next 12-hours (mainly because the forecasts require more time, and the longer the post, the less time).
So lets get into it. Now the cold front is going to pass through the region only a few hours earlier than originally expected, however this isn't going to alter the forecast at all. The cool air is going to be an hour or so behind the front, but once it arrives you'll notice it quickly.
This afternoon, broad area of low pressures in the region are going to continue to effect us. The Texas low is moving off the coast of NYC, we have a deepening low pressure centre over the southern Michigan area, and we have a cold front just off to the west. Now this low pressure over Michigan is actually wrapping precip around its centre and this is going to eventually mix with snow showers as the cold air arrives.
Looks like the drop will be sharp in the western half of the region this evening...lows tonight down in the lower 20's...maybe near upper teens.
So that is just some of what I am looking at. Now, when will the transitional period happen? For the Fort Wayne area it'll occur late, late afternoon and early this evening. Snow showers likely overnight. For Toledo, transition begins between 6.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m hours then snow likely overnight. Detroit, same as Toledo. Accumulations as of now, this where the western half of the region is standing: 2-4 inches.
I'll have a complete update coming up around 12.30 p.m., so make sure that you check back for that. I'll give you a full rundown on the collapsing warm trend, that has been plaquing us for the past month, around that time. It'll be a full update. Forecasts have been touched up and revised. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
