A bit to type about this morning as the lake effect snow continues rather well in the eastern half of the region – mainly up in Buffalo – while the cold front sweeps through the region. Now the cold front will mainly cool the weather down a few more degrees, but the snow and the clouds won’t really exit until the base of that trough gets closer.Where is the trough this morning? It is just off to the west of the region, passing through Illinois right now. The trough is rather defined and it’s making good progress. The 850-mb temp advection
behind it is also holding out rather nicely. The most active weather in the region will be happening mainly this morning, and then things will start to quiet down in the region as the high pressure starts to set in.The upper level trough is going to pass through the western half of the region this afternoon, and then it will quickly calm the western half of the region down and clear out those skies. As this happens, the cold air advection will take place and those lows tonight are going to fall into the mid to upper teens in the west overnight. Then the high pressure will arrive in the west.
With the introduction of the high pressure in the western half of the region tonight, this high pressure will keep the weather in the west rather chilly tomorrow with highs staying well below 30° for a high tomorrow. The skies will at least be clear. The lows tomorrow night in the western half of the region will be even chillier as lows will get down to about 15° as that high pressure will basically be centered over the western half of the region.
In the east,
the weather will remain active because that trough will have yet to pass through. The upper trough will keep those clouds and lake effect snow showers going which will actually keep the overnight temps a little bit on the warm side compared to the west. The upper level low will start to pass through late tonight and early tomorrow morning and this is going to calm the weather down in the eastern half of the by tomorrow afternoon. By this time however, the high pressure will have already been making progress so this high won’t give the east as cool of temperatures that the western half of the region will be seeing.
High pressure will keep the weather calm for Sunday, Monday and part of Tuesday, but I am watching yet another system that will impact the region and this one I’ll type more about in a later update.
I’ll keep you updated as always; extended forecasts will be revised again around 10.00 a.m., with a brief update. I’ll have a full forecast revision (the present ones are still valid) and that will come with a complete update around Noon. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
