Update

The low pressure will be there on Tuesday/Wednesday, but the big question still remains as to where the temperatures are going to be. More importantly, where the 850-mb temperatures are going to be on Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning.

What will happen is that on Monday a cold front will attempt to move into the region; however a high pressure to the south will be blocking it. This high pressure is going to make the front nearly stationary as it nears the region. But the focus will shift to the southern Plains where an upper level low will move towards the region. The low pressure will pull some cooler air down from the northern Plains as it moves towards the region, but just how cool that air will be is still a bit of a question.

Looks like we’ll be seeing rain from this system, but the main focus will be Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning as that low pressure nears the region. This low is going to cut right through the region. We’ll also see the backside of the low pressure effect the western half of the region around this time as well, but how much precip will be left for the low to work with and more importantly just how much cool air will be around too.

One of the interesting parts with this low pressure system will be the lack of high pressure influence behind the low pressure. The high pressure will be there, but it will be farther to the south than what we’d want to see. This mean that a cool down wont be as big as we’d normally expect with a system like this. This will pose a few problems in the forecasts after Wednesday, but in general it won’t be anything that difficult.

So again, we now know that the low pressure system will be in the region by the middle of the week, however the question will remain of how strong it will be. Remember, we want this system to work in our favor for a white Christmas.

I’ll be working on those forecasts throughout the morning, with the main focus going to Tuesday and Wednesday in the region. I’ll keep you updated throughout the morning, and I’ll pass along all the information I receive when I receive, so be sure that you keep checking back for updates. This is going to be a fun system to forecast.

But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather!
