Quick Update

No big changes to the forecasts right now with the only exception being Fort Wayne and Toledo where I dropped the rain chances and went straight into a wintry mix. Looking at the recent radar images and surface observations, temperatures hovering just above freezing while the precip over Indiana is turning into snow – as says the surface obs. Now the question is going to be whether or not our temps will be able to get low enough this afternoon to start allowing for that snow to accumulate. Will it?

Keeping an eye on the surface low pressure, we see that is is down in the southern Indiana this morning and doing well in terms of time. The upper level low is being run into backside by the upper level trough behind it and this is what is helping to keep those rain showers and snow showers into the region this morning. However, watching the cool air begin to seep in from the west and that is looking like it’ll be pulled in around the low this afternoon. That means that temperatures are going to slowly drop and the snow will start to accumulate in the west. The transition will not happen in the eastern half of the region until late this afternoon and into the evening hours.

The snow showers in the west will accumulate upwards to about 1 to 3-inches, with most of that happening this afternoon and early evening. The snow showers will begin to pull out of the western half of the region this evening and by about midnight the snow should be out and clearing in skies will take place, allowing for overnight lows to drop to around 20° in places like Fort Wayne and Toledo.

Looking over at the east, the system will play a different game after midnight tonight as the low will pull cooler air southward over the lake…thus allowing for lake effect snow showers to develop along with the snow from ths system itself. Expect an additional 1 to possibly 2 inches of snow in the east by tomorrow morning, for a total accumulation of 2-4 inches, possibly 5, by the time tomorrow afternoon rolls around.

So things going to plan, with the exception of the internet problems for Facebook which is why that hasn’t been updated yet since about 4.30. I’ll keep you updated on the site throughout the day however, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Enjoy the wintry weather while it lasts.
