Busy Weather Day

A lot to type about this morning as our low pressure system is already starting to effect the region. The weather that you’re seeing this morning if you’re heading out the door will not be the same weather you’ll see this afternoon/evening on your way home from work. Rain showers being reported in a few locations this morning, but Fort Wayne is going back and forth between rain and snow and the radar this morning is trying to indicate a mix. Figures. The rain is going to turn over to snow before too long.

Our upper level trough is making its way through the Midwest and following right behind the upper level low which down in the Tennessee area.

The low pressure is going to track up to the northeast and this morning and right now the precip shield is rather large. In the region, we’re seeing some rain, but the low will be pulling down some cooler air around it rather soon and that is going to start to turn those rain showers into snow showers – mainly along the western half of the low. Too add to this, the upper trough will aid in pulling down some cooler air as well, so we’ll actually start seeeing temperatures drop throughout the late morning and afternoon in the western half of the region.

The snow fall totals are a tad bit tricky this morning, I did add an extra inch into the Toledo area, but in general the western half of the region is going to see about 1 to 3-inches of snow accumulation – the majority of that happening this afternoon and into the evening.

The low pressure will move its snow showers out of the western half of the region this evening and that will allow for some brief clearing to take place. Too make it more interesting…the temperatures across the region are going to plummet down into the teens for overnight lows tonight – and depending on when that clearing starts will determing whether or not places like Fort Wayne and Toledo see 20° for a low…or 15° for a low.

The eastern half of the region, mainly the Erie area, is going to see things a tad bit differently today as that low will play a different game. The low pressure will not have pulled the cool air east enough this morning and afternoon, so the precip in the area from Cleveland to Buffalo will remain mostly rain through the afternoon. Late this afternoon, however, the rain showers are going to switch over to snow showers and then the low pressure will change its course a little bit.

As the low pressure hooks a turn towards the New England, it will add to the snow showers by giving some lake enhanced snow showers. Because of this, I have bumped up the snow fall totals for Erie from 1-3 inches to about 2-4 inches (with locally 5-inches possible).

I’ll keep you updated throughout the morning, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
