Noon Update

Full update on the Christmas weather will be coming up this afternoon at 3.30 p.m. So be sure to check back for that. Now the weather:

Generally cloudy across the western half of the region this afternoon. A little bit of advection at the 850-mb level has made a few of those clouds heavy enough to produce a little bit of rain showers moving through Indiana and NW Ohio. These rain showers are generally light and will have a lot of troubles making it past Toledo as the high pressure is still keeping a lot of dry air in the region at this point. The rain showers that do survive will merely be light and widely scattered and wont last very long at all. So a close call, but if you didn’t bring your umbrella you’re still alright for the afternoon. The real precip isn’t going to arrive until the overnight hours here in the western half of the region.

Looking at the big picture this afternoon, the upper level trough is doing well as it digs into the southern Plains right on time. Remember, this upper level trough is going to kick up that surface low pressure down in the Oklahoma which will deepen and move towards the region.

Really, in the extended forecasts there isn’t a whole lot of adjusting I can do at this point and now all we can do is sit and wait for the low pressure centre to develop – which wont happen for atleast another 18-hours. So basically what I’ll be doing this afternoon is monitoring the advancing upper level trough and the advancing warm front. So really, do not expect to see a whole lot of changes to the near term forecast this afternoon, although there will be changes to the Sunday forecast a bit later on this afternoon.

Otherwise, not really a whole lot going on in the region this afternoon in terms of weather. I’ll have a complete update coming up around 3.30 p.m. this afternoon both on the site and on Facebook. Not all of the new model runs are out at this point, so as far as redoing the Christmas forecast it’ll have to wait until 3.30 p.m.(The past 11 Christmas')

But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
