No major changes to the forecast this evening as things are generally going to plan. Watching as the warm front is pushing through the region right now and this is introducing the first round of rain showers. The rain showers that come from this wont last very long and they are going to be very light and widely scattered. There will be break once these showers pass in the western half of the region, but for the eastern half of the region we’ll keep them in the forecast for the overnight.
The big system doesn’t arrive until tomorrow when the low pressure system enters the region. This will bring the next wave of rain showers into the region and then towards the backside of this system we’ll going to be seeing a mixing with some snow and then the high pressure will build into the region. There will be some lingering lake effect snow showers in the eastern half of the region, however there wont be much accumulation – probably none at all – as temperatures will still be a little too warm to support accumulations and decent snow fall.
This high pressure ridge is going to set up on Saturday and then we’re going to be seeing this ridge of high pressure put some warmer air into the region ahead of the next system.
The next system is going to be a good sized low pressure that is going to come barelling down out of the lower Canada and northern Plains and this low pressure is going to have a broad cold front that is going to extend through the region. The cold front – along with associated moisture from the low’s centre – will enter the region on Sunday and Monday and this is going to really drop those temperatures to a little bit below normal. I am not going with single digit temperatures at this time as I am not expecting the cooler air will be that strong, but I will keep highs in the 20’s for the start of next week.
I’ll have updates coming up tomorrow morning at 4.30 a.m. and I’ll give you so more information on this January system coming towards the week. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll havet hem for you as always.
