Looking at the regional precip radar, there is an end to this system and that will start to enter the western region around midnight tonight. Now at this point, as been mentioned, trying to determine where the snow is at this point is a little difficult as the radars are showing rain and the reports are saying snow. So it just complicates the snow fall totals more than anything else. The readings of a radar are more complicated than one gives it credit for.
Right now, all precip forecasts are based on ASOS (Automated Surface Observation System) reports as well as the locations of the precip. Temperatures will be a blend with ASOS and RUC Guidance.
The breaks in the precip as mentioned are already being noticed in the areas just to the west of Cleveland around central Indiana this morning with southern Indiana becoming dry and precip free. Looks like we’re going to start pushing the precip out of the region after midnight tonight in the western half of the region which will taper off towards sunrise.
Fort Wayne will dry out first, followed closely by Detroit and then Toledo will clear all precip out early tomorrow morning. Cleveland and points eastward will have to wait until about Noon tomorrow for the precip to end. Back to the snow tonight:
The western half of the region is where the majority of the snow is going to be tonight as the eastern half of the region is still hanging around in the 40’s for temperatures.
Looking for the bulk of those accumulations to occur on grassy areas, mainly because the lows tonight in the western half of the region are only going to be in the lower 30’s. This isn’t leaving much safety for that snow to accumulate, so mainly this evening that temp could go briefly above 32 and then fall to 31 and repeat that cycle a couple times. This will result in snow accumulating on the grass, but it will have troubles accumulating on the roads and sidewalks. However, pavement might be slippery in some areas – especially in a few isolated patches where some lucky snow flakes where able to stick.
By the time the temperature actually gets steady in the lower 30’s, the snow showers will have already started to lessen up so again, accumulations wont be all that much despite the early switch over to snow.
And to think tonight was suppose to be an easy forecasting night…c’est la vie. All the more fun when things stray a little.
Otherwise rain showers in the eastern half of the region. Looking at 41° in Cleveland with rain, 32° in Toledo with snow and 42° in Buffalo with rain. You can tell where the stationary front is this evening. Now that front is going to be moving out of the region tonight as that weak low pressure centre pulls it away from the region.
Look for lingering rain/snow showers in the region tomorrow morning as that front will still be trying to give us a little bit of precip – mainly in the east – and that will mainly be cleared out by tomorrow afternoon in the region.
Now there is another weak disturbance that will move through the region tomorrow night and Friday, but those will only be light snow showers at the most. I’ll type more about those in the morning at 5.30 a.m. Extended forecasts will be revised around that time as well. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always. And now I will repeat the forecast for tonight in Russian:
