Things mainly going to plan this morning, with some lingering snow showers out in the eastern half of the region and some light flurries trying to hang on in the western half of the region. The clouds are filling the entire forecast area this morning, and those will start to break late this afternoon and overnight as a high pressure tries to estabilish dominance in the western half of the region. The eastern half of the region is going to see the same thing happen, only it will happen more so tomorrow morning and the breaks in the clouds wont be that much. The high pressure will keep the regional weather calm for tomorrow, but the clouds will still linger on in the east as the dominance of the high wont be as strong in the east as it will be in the western half of the region.
Tomorrow, highs will be a little on the cooler side, most places wont get above 40°. However the weather is going to give us one more final shot at a white Christmas before all is said and done on Sunday.
A cold front will pull out of the northern Plains and enter the region. It’ll be a dry front and wont have a whole lot of moisture to work with when it arrives. None the less, it’ll introduce some widely scattered snow flakes into the western half of the region Christmas afternoon, and despite the snow, temperatures will still be above freezing so that snow won’t really accumulate much. The cold front will then swing into the eastern half of the forecast area late Christmas afternoon and that is going to introduce those showers in the east by the early evening.
This cold front will then produce a minor lake effect event as it pulls cooler air over the warmer lake waters. Expect about an inch of snow in the Erie area on Christmas night, so if all goes to plan the region will at least be seeing a few snow flurries on the Christmas day.
The high pressure will return on Monday and this is going to calm a good portion of the western half of the region, and eventually the eastern half of the region by Monday afternoon. Clouds will still be hanging around in the east as the high pressure dominance will still be mainly focused on the western half of the region. Cleveland is where the dividing line between clouds and sun will occur. Highs return to about 40° on Tuesday as we get ready for our next low pressure system to affect us from the south. I’ll type more about that later.
I’ll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
