Actual Winter Weather on the Way...?

The weather across the region is going to get a little active, and it will happen just in time for the New Years Holiday. Now before I go any further, let me remind that I am providing personalized forecasts – even if your city is one of the ones that is on this site – for cities all across the country, so just send me an email at albertson_timmy@yahoo.com and I’ll get you those. Some winter like weather is on the way for the entire region. Lets type about it:

Now a warm front is going to pass through the region this evening, so ahead of it will be rain and some snow showers. The snow showers will happen first, but then once that warm front nears, it’ll turn into all rain showers. The precip wont be around that much, they’ll mainly be widely scattered, so do not expect much rain fall totals from this portion of the system. The low pressure responsible for this is going to stall out over the lower portion of Michigan and this is going to hang around the region for about a day.

An upper level trough is going to come out of the Plains tomorrow and this is going to carry another surface low pressure. The surface low stalled out over Michigan will get absorbed (for lack of a better term) into the approachig low pressure that is going to pass through. This second low will be a little bit stronger, but not by much, and this is going to introduce yet another shot of precip into the region. The precip from this second low is going to start off as rain showers, but then that low pressure will pull in enough cool air, that the second half of the precip will actually be snow showers in the region. The snow is going to have a hard time accumulating because the temperatures will be warm, but not to worry, we have another system on the way and this one will be fun.

The low pressure and its associated upper trough will exit the region towards the end of the weekend and this is going to allow for ridging to take place in the region. This high presure ridge will warm up temperatures into the region, and then it will allow for our next system to produce some warm advection into the region. Here is where it gets fun: the cold front.

This low pressure will be up to the north, but it will have a long cold front that is going to sweep through the region. This system will start producing snow, and the main feature behind it is going to be the cooler temperatures behind it. The cold front is going to dive out of the Plains – so we know it’ll be good cool air – and this is going to thrust itself into the region by the New Years Day holiday. I am watching for a good chance for a nice sized lake effect snow event to take place in the eastern half of the region, with some additional snow showers possible in the western half of the region.

I’ll have another update on this system coming up in a little bit, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
