(Blue line is the cold front, the red line is the warm front).
Things across the region right now are seeming to be fairly quiet. A long line of storms is extending over from down near Lima, OH all the way to the Tennessee/Alabama border...so a hell of a long line...however there are no warnings on it at this time.
Ok, so here is what is happening right now. The low pressure over in the central Plain's has pulled the stationary front up northward, thus causing it to be a warm front. This warm front has already passed through the southern part of the region, and will be in Detroit at this time, or already passed it. We're seeing the air down below that warm front much warmer and a little bit more unstable so we could see some storms firing up later this afternoon, however most of them will be regular storms but a few storms within the mix could be strong.
The low pressure has a cold front, and that cold front is just about to enter Illinois here within the next hour or so. There are some small storms ahead of that cold front, but they aren't frequent...they are just chilling, for lack of a much better term. We are seeing some heavy cloud cover in parts of the region, and this is concerning to me because with these clouds means no storms. And for those of you who like the storms, you want the sun...not the clouds. I am seeing some small breaks in the clouds here and there, so that will be something that I will want to watch. Again remember, the clouds prevent the lift and no lift means no storms.
Timing the cold front is a little tough at this point, however I believe that it will be going through the Fort Wayne area late this afternoon/early this evening and that means that there could be a brief break in the storm chances overnight tonight in the Fort Wayne area. Now, we could still get some strong storms ahead of that cold front, but in general they will be regular type storms because that cold front will have less time to work with the unstable air in the Northeast portions of Indiana.
It wont be until this evening when that cold front makes it to Toledo and the NW Ohio area. The cold front will come in, and it will be in time to work with that already unstable air and such (pending no clouds). The chances of the storms I believe will be ending this evening as that cold front moves through the region. Some of those storms could be strong if we get some clearing, but at this point it is going to be very iffy because I am not seeing that break in the clouds over Northwest Ohio like I thought I was going to. But oh well, you win some you lose some.
Cleveland will be seeing their chance for storms overnight tonight as that cold front moves through your region later this evening around the midnight hours, and that will be something that could get interesting, however I do believe that you will have as equal of a chance for some strong storms as Toledo does, despite the recent SPC outlook.
So lets recap quickly on what I expect to happen across the region today...for at least the rest of the afternoon that is. I am expecting that cold front is going to continue to make its way towards the region at a fairly steady pace. This will be because that low pressure over in the Plain's is going to move towards Lake Superior. Translation, we're in a good spot for some interesting moments...pending those damn clouds dont stick around because I am sure that a lot of you want to start to see some storms, I know I want to see some storms.
Now, we do have yet another low pressure system on the way from the southern Plain's, and that we'll type about this afternoon for the post as well as this evening for the evening update.
I'll keep you updated on all developing storms if they come around, but do remember that these clouds could pose a problem. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
rest of the post being typed.
