Afternoon Update

(Low pressure in the southern Plains will head our way as the day goes on...will be responsible for the rain tomorrow and Saturday across the region).

The cold front is slowly moving across the region right now, and in fact it is so slow that parts of the front around the low pressure (located in the Plain's) have become stationary. Oh well, too bad, you can't win them all. But as for right now here in the region, it is mostly clear skies except for a line of clouds and light rain showers extending from Green Bay through central Michigan. I am a little surprised that some of these rain showers have held up, but in general if any do make it into Toledo, they will be very light...very light. Most of the rain will evaporate before hitting the ground and it should generaly remain cloudy this afternoon.

Looking for a rather good chance of rain for the day tomorrow and tomorrow night. I am following that low pressure system as it moves from northern Texas and heads towards the region later today. It wont start knocking at our door until tomorrow afternoon for most places, and those rain showers will last through the entire region through the day Saturday and possibly into Saturday night. Like I've been typing about, mostly a rain shower event, could be a few embedded storms, but in general most of those storms will stay to the south of us.

Now there will be some cooler weather in store for us as a high pressure sets up from Canada. This high pressure will slided south through the Plain's but it'll still keep our temps cool, mostly in the 50's for the region, with a few places on the day Sunday and possibly Monday not getting above 50° (but that'll mostly be for the northern part of the region and areas to the southeast of a lake).

Now, 41 years ago yesterday, the 3rd mission to the moon, Apollo 13, had an oxygen tank explosion and had to abort the lunar landing now. Now pretty much on this day is when Apollo 13 had to literally swing around the moon and use its gravity to sling shot the capsule around and give it some speed to make it back home. Here is the daily weather for the region for this day in 1970...

Buffalo: It was an alright day in Buffalo in terms of weather, some cloud cover here and there, but in general right about average. Highs that day was 59° with a morning low around 39°.

Toledo: Mostly cloudy and it rained a little bit during the day, but it wasn't too much. Temps were actually right about average with a high at 54° and a morning low of 36°.

Fort Wayne: It was a cloudy, foggy and drizzle filled day as highs only reached 50° and a morning low of only 42°.

Green Bay: You guys saw a nice day with a high at 54° and a low of 36° and it was mostly clear throughout the day.

Detroit: Pretty much a cloudy and hazy day with a high around 54° and a morning low of 32°.

I'll have more coming up later this evening for the Evening Update and we'll take a look at some surface charts and more weather reports from this day in 1970. I'll keep you updated of course as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you.
