Well, as we've been typing about the past couple days, we'll be seeing an odd wintry mix in the region starting tomorrow. So lets type about this for a moment.
This morning we saw a low of about 3.9° here at the GLWX home, and this is in thanks to a high pressure which is moving into the region. This high pressure will dominate the region today, most places will only see a high in the low 20's. Tonight, we could see a repeat of this morning throughout the region. But as that high pressure moves out of the region tomorrow, we'll see a new weather system move into the region.
First, we'll see a low pressure come out of South Dakota, this low will not be strong, but it'll be good enough to give us some precip. The first place to be effected by this system will be Green Bay, where we could see a chance of snow showers on Monday. The snow will not be very accumulative, maybe around an inch or two at best.
Then on Monday night, this low will slide into Iowa, and it'll get a little stronger, but again, nothing too much. Usually, when a low pressure makes this kind of course, we'd expect a big warm up, but because of both the location and the power of this low pressure, we wont really see a big warm up. Snow showers will begin to fall in places like Fort Wayne and Toledo around the evening hours, probably after 9 p.m. as clouds roll in. Lows will not be very cool, only in the low to mid 20's.
Tuesday, however, is when things get interesting. Recent charts and meteorological intelligence (I've always wanted to use that term) show that the low pressure could pass through central Illinois, and when this happens, we could see a wintry mix in quite a few places. This wont be an ice storm, or the end of the world. But on Tuesday morning when we make that transition from snow showers to rain showers in Toledo and Fort Wayne, we could see some freezing rain mix in so do take it easy on those roads.
Tuesday afternoon, places from Fort Wayne to Erie will see mostly rain showers, but the temperatures wont be very high, only in the mid 30's in the above mentioned. This means that it could still be very slippery on those roads and sidewalks, so again, be careful.
Tuesday evening, we'll be looking for those rain showers to lessen up in Toledo and Fort Wayne, and depending on where the freezing line is at this time, we could see some snow showers mix in after sunset. Now, when we get the snow, it wont be much...what a shocker. The most I can imagine us getting in Toledo would be about an inch. However, temperatures will begin to cool off noticably once the cold front passes through the area.
Wednesday, I expect the front to have passed through much of the region by this time, so a bit cooler and a little windier at this time. Highs on Wednesday in places like Toledo and Fort Wayne will only be in the mid 20's, but that is not the coldest it will get.
Thursday and Friday, a lot of places across the region will see much colder temperatures as the high pressure from Manitoba sets in. Lows on Thursday and Friday night in places like Toledo and Fort Wayne could be around 5°, and possibly even 0° on Friday night.
So, basically a very quick warm up to the mid 30's on Tuesday across the Great Lakes region. Rain showers possible throughout the region from Fort Wayne to Erie on Tuesday. By Wednesday, skies should clear up in the Toledo, but Erie will see some lake effect snow. A high pressure takes control over the region by Thursday, and we'll see lows in the single digits across the Great Lakes region...-10° if you're in Green Bay.
I'll keep you up to date as always on this system and other weather across the region, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates.
