Well, I do know for a fact that last night around 7:30 p.m. here in BG, we did start having some light snow fall. Nothing accumulated however, but it was a nice sight to see.
Right now we have a cluster of light snow showers located in western Indiana and western Michigan. These light snow showers are trying to make their way eastward and for right now, they are doing a fairly good job. Now, will this be enough to give anybody snow accumulation? No it will not be, but it will be enough to notice that it is snowing outside. I'll be keeping you all up to date on that cluster as it moves through the Great Lakes area. So what could we expect for the day today in the southern Great Lakes region? Scroll down a few paragraphs and I'll tell you the forecast.
Over in Erie, the same system that gave rain to Fort Wayne and Toledo yesterday, is still in Erie, and just now beginning to move out. The rain however over there has switched to snow. What a surprise for Erie. Now let's take a look at some of my forecasts:
Toledo: Highs today in the mid 30's, and we'll have a chance for snow showers all day. This is thanks to a second low that has formed over Lake Ontario. Tonight, we could still see a chance for snow showers, otherwise it'll be mostly cloudy with lows down in the mid 20's. Tomorrow for Toledo, we could see a chance for a some snow showers in the morning hours, otherwise a mostly cloudy day with highs again in the mid 30's. I do not expect any realsnow accumulation between today and tomorrow, however a dusting is possible. Going into tomorrow night, we could see lows in the lower 20's with partly cloudy skies.
Fort Wayne: Today we could see some of those light snow showers making their way to the Fort Wayne region this morning and afternoon. No snow accumulation expected at this time. Highs in the lower 30's for the people of Fort Wayne. Heading into tonight, lows in the mid 20's, still a chance for scattered snow showers but otherwise it'll be mostly cloudy. Tomorrow, we'll see a chance for snow showers in the morning hours, otherwise skies cloudy and then turning clearer as the day progresses. Highs tomorrow only in the mid 30's. Tomorrow night, expect temperatures to be in the mid 20's with mostly cloudy skies.
Erie: Today...snow. Highs near 40°, I am not expecting much accumulation for the next 12 hours, however tonight with these snow showers, people in the Erie area can expect any where from 1-2 inches of snow. Lows tonight in the upper 20's. Tomorrow, again, another chance of 1-2 inches of snow as the low pressure over Lake Ontario and low pressure Anastasia continue to push the winds off the lake. Highs tomorrow in the mid 30's. Tomorrow night, still a chance for snow showers, with lows down in the mid 30's.
Forecasts from Jacob:
Buffalo, you have a Lake Effect Snow Watch out for your region now, as once this rain snow mix turns over to all snow, it could get quite heavy. Today we will see rain turning over to snow in the early to mid afternoon, and then lake effect snow banding may set up. It is hard to forecast exact snow amounts, but some areas could see over a foot where the banding sets up. Stay tuned here and to the National Weather Service for additional advisories about the Lake Effect Snow, as that will be the real story. Other than that, not too much has changed since the forecast published yesterday. Today and tomorrow we will see the lake effect snow, but then tomorrow night into Friday we will see it taper off and nicer conditions begin to move in. However, you will have to get through this large period of snow to get there.
Detroit, you have some light snow showers scattered about the area right now, but they are not really accumulating to too much at the moment. Today temperatures will top out in the mid 30s, and they will drop into the low 30s tonight with very scattered snow showers. By tomorrow, conditions will improve, and skies should be partly cloudy, with scattered flurries and similar highs to the ones today. Conditions like those should persist through Saturday, when the next real chance of snow appears. Make sure to check back in for more information about that potential next chance of snow.
Green Bay, you are becoming frigid. You should have flurries in the region around this time, and skies should stay cloudy throughout the day. Temperatures will not get out of the 20s today. Tonight, skies will clear a little as temperatures drop into the mid teens, and tomorrow skies will become partly cloudy with similar highs to today. Similar conditions will persist until Saturday, when a chance of snow works its way into the forecast. Until then, expect cold and dry weather, but stay tuned as there is snow forecast in the future.
So, there are some forecasts, made by yours truly and Jacob. So, today, we can really expect a decent chance of snow for much of the southern Great Lakes region today. Not really much in terms of accumulation though today, but still enough, like I said, to be noticed. I'll keep you up to date as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
