Well, unless you're in Chicago, then you wont have to worry about a whole lot in terms of snow today. We have the remenents of our N.D. Clipper moving through the Chicago area right now, and that'll give the people of Chicago about 3-6 inches of snow today, if not maybe an extra inch in some places.
Now, towards the beginning of the work work is when we could see the temperatures really drop off. Places in the Great Lakes region will be in the mid teens for lows, and Wednesday morning some places might even see temperatures near about 10° (at least that is what I am forecasting for Toledo) so obviously a cool down coming about us here within the next couple days.
But other than that, what can we expect for the rest of the Great Lakes region? Well, let's take a look at the forecasts made by myself and Jacob.
Toledo: Today, you'll have scattered snow showers this afternoon as the remenent's of the N.D. Clipper pass through central Indiana. No real snow accumulation expected, about a trace of snow. Highs today will be in the lower 30's. Tonight, still a chance for some scattered snow flurries as the winds will shift off Lake Michigan and possibly bring some light snow to our area. Lows tonight down in the lower 20's, mostly cloudy. Tomorrow, cloudy for sure, we could still see a chance for a couple snow showers, but again, no accumulation expected. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower 30's.
Erie: Snow today of course, you guys could see an additional 1-2 inches of snow fall on top of what you might already have. Otherwise, mostly cloudy today with highs in the lower 30's. Tonight, I expect temperatures to be in the mid 20's and again, you guys could see some snow fall, but I do not expect anything more than an inch in accumulation. Tomorrow however, the snow will make a comeback and you all could see new snow fall amounts around 2-4 inches (some places might see about 5 inches). Highs tomorrow in the lower 30's.
Now here is where the winds off Lake Michigan will be noticable...
Fort Wayne: Today, scattered snow snow showers possible, highs in the lower 30's with snow accumulation of less than an inch possible. Tonight, mostly cloudy with lows in the lower 20's and still some scattered snow showers possible. Sunday, winds will begin to blow off Lake Michigan, and cause lake effect snow -- some of those bands could make it to Fort Wayne (this is why, despite its location, Fort Wayne is included in Great Lakes Weather Forecasts). This lake effect snow will be lasting into Tuesday, so Fort Wayne could recieve about 1-3 inches of snow by Monday morning. Even though Fort Wayne is a long distance from the lake, Fort Wayne will be under a "Lake Effect Snow Advisory" starting tomorrow morning and going into Tuesday. Now, it wont be the end of the world for you all, but it is neat to see how Lake Effect snow will be effecting a city that is nowhere near the Lake.
Jacob's forecast:
Buffalo, it should be flurrying today with highs right around freezing. Tonight, snow showers will move in with temperatures bottoming out in the mid to low 20s. Sunday, snow showers will become more widespread, with temperatures likely not getting out of the 20s, and similar lows Sunday night to tonight. Snow showers will still be around throughout the entirety of Monday and Tuesday as well. Hopefully it will add a little cheer to the beginning of the work week, assuming you haven't seen enough of it after all that crazy Lake Effect snow. It looks like the lakes are going to be getting angry again at some point next week, and they will start spouting snow all across the area, so stay tuned for more information about that and the incoming snow showers, and have a great weekend.
Detroit, today we should see mostly cloudy skies with widely scattered snow showers, and temperatures topping out around freezing. Tonight, the showers will transition to flurries, with lows in the mid to low 20s. Tomorrow will have widespread flurries, and temperatures may be able to reach the 30 degree mark. Similar conditions will persist tomorrow night, and the low tomorrow night should be the same as tonight. Once Monday comes around, it looks like the chance of snow will start up again, and some of that snow could be coming off of the lakes, resulting in heavy banding. That is not a guarantee, but a possibility, so you should keep checking back in for more information about that. Have a great weekend despite the cold.
Green Bay, there should be some snow showers departing right about now, but flurries will stay behind today for the remainder of the day. Temperatures will likely not get out of the 20s. Tonight the flurries will continue with a low around the 20 degree mark, and tomorrow we should see partly cloudy skies and temperatures not getting out of the mid 20s. It should be a nice Sunday, but it will be downright frigid. Tomorrow night, lows will be in the mid teens as a reinforcing shot of arctic air moves in, leading to a high of around 20 on Monday with more partly cloudy skies. Lows will be around 10 and highs will be around 20 it appears for at least the rest of the early week, as the polar vortex really traps a lot of the cold air. I hope you have a great weekend, and stay warm despite all the cold.
So basically, most places in the present forecast cities will be seeing some snow today, whether it be lake effect, clipper-type, or just scattered. Winter is upon us (about time) and it's going to be a fun next couple of the days. I'll be keeping you all up to date as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
