Cold weather than snow?

Alrighty now we're going to be getting fairly busy here at the GLWX for the next few days. Ryan is going to be joining us at a very busy time, so he'll be jumping right into a very tricky forecast when he forecasts for Cleveland. What do I mean by this? This is just an early system, that is all, so do not panic and act like we're going to have another Blizzard or 1978. Will this snow storm be a record breaker? No. Will is give us a foot of snow? No. But it could give us a decent amount of snow. Ok, let me explain it all to you:

First we have a high pressure which as we speak is moving into the Great Lakes region as I type this. Tonight in places like Fort Wayne, Toledo, Green Bay, you all could see lows tonight near about 10°. Now, I am going to make a solid call and say that Fort Wayne and Toledo, your lows tonight will be near 10°, however some places might see lows in the single digits especially in those very rural areas.

Erie, PA: expect snow showers to continue thanks to the lake effect, I expect another 3-6 inches of snow for you guys by tonight. However, the snow should start to taper off by tomorrow, so that'll give you all a nice break.

Then, tomorrow, we are clear and quiet for the most part across much of the G.L. Region, with highs mostly in the 20's is what the general consensus is.

Friday is when things start to change. We'll see a clipper system move into the region, and the western Great Lakes will get it first, they could see about 1-2 inches of snow in most places, Jacob will be putting a number on his forecasts for snow in Green Bay hopefully sometime today.

Saturday, the clipper continues to move eastward, giving snow to the central G.L region, that includes Toledo, Detroit, Fort Wayne and Lima areas. It wont be a big deal, maybe about an inche of snow, a typical Alberta clipper type system.

Saturday Night, I expect the snow to continue through the region, and again, we'll most likely only see a total snow accumulation of about 1-3 inches. Places like Toledo, Fort Wayne you both could see a total accumulation of 1-3 inches of snow.

Sunday, we'll still be seeing some snow showers in the area, as a low out of the Plains begins to form. The evolution of this storm however is too early to call, however the general view of it is that it will pass through either Indiana or Ohio. But on Sunday, we'll see it move into the Missouri/Tennessee region and that is when the forecast gets tricky.

If it holds out like things look now, it could move into the region late Sunday night and early Monday morning. At this rate, there could a mix of either rain and snow, which will make things even more difficult. If the low goes up too far north, we'll get a lot of rain, and not too much snow, but if it goes a little to the south, we'll see snow and little rain. Either way it'll be a mix of something.

Now, dont go to the store and start buying snow blowers because if I see anyone doing that today, I will just have to kick their ass. I do not expect us to get overwhelmed with snow, however it is mostly a mix between the trickiness of this system as well as the first time since about January that I've had to make a good sized snow forecast.

Jacob and I will be keeping you up to date on this system throughout the day today as we get new numbers coming in, new information, charts and other stuff that will be updated as the day goes on.

So, lets take a quick recap of what I expect: A clipper system will move through the GLWX forecast realm over the weekend. Most places could see about 1-3 inches of snow if everything goes as planned. Then, Sunday night we'll be watching the possibilty of a second (stronger low), moving into the GLWX realm.

I'll keep you all update as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
