The weather across the region is going to be a bit on the active side for the next...I'd say 36 to 48-hours in the region. Lets take a look at what is happening in the region:
At the surface, we have a broad area of high pressure which is occupying just about the entire SE part of the US. This high pressure is ushering in warm air and moist air into the region. Because of this, we're going to see temperatures in the region get rather warm once again. Highs in the western half of the region will be near to, if not at, 100F for a high this afternoon. However, the high pressure isn't the only show in the region.
If we look up to the northern Great Lakes, we see a cold front attached to a low pressuer centre. This cold front is heading towards the region, taking its time, but heading towards us nonetheless. This cold front will allow for advection to take place and we're going to see rain showers and thunderstorms develop ahead of it. The big thing with this front will be the timing, and just exactly how much moisture it'll have to work with. Regardless, I am expecting rain showers and thunderstorms in the region late tonight and through the day tomorrow and even into tomorow evening for some places. I'll be working on the timing and amount of storms that we could see.
So why is this front important? Simple, as most of you can probably tell by now, a good majority (especially the western half) is in some form of a "drought" although, there isn't anything "exceptional" yet at this point. The rain is going to be important, and though it probably will not be enough to end the classified "Drought" in parts of the region, it'll be enough to lessen the categories and provide some relief to the region. Will the storms be strong tomorrow? Probably not all that much, though we might be able to sneak one or two of them into the region tomorrow, of course that as well is going to be something that I am going to be watching for and working on throughout the day today.
Another area of high pressure will try to set up in the region on Thursday, but we might actually watch a wave of low pressure slip through the eastern half of the region, and that is going to be something that I'll type about later.
So, a cold front is headed towards the region, and it looks as though parts of the region might actually be getting some of that rain. I'll more about tomorrow's weather in the region a little bit later, so make sure that you check back for updates. I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, that's the weather!
