Possibly Interesting

So things are looking a bit more entertaining in the region than they were yesterday (well today will still be boring, but there is a chance that things could get interesting in the region later this weekend).

A ridge of high pressure will dominate the regional weather through the day today, tomorrow and into Saturday. But a trough of low pressure at basically the majority of the levels of the atmosphere is going to find itself heading towards the region. This wave of low pressure is going to possibly bring in some rain showers and thunderstorms into the region. Right now, the place that I am thinking has the best chances will be Detroit. However, a surface low might develop, and if this happens, well there will be a cold front involved which might in fact effect a good portion of the western half of the region.

For those of you looking at the extended forecasts this morning, you might notice that I am treating this system not as a wave of low pressure, but as a cold front system. I am sort of going out on a limb, and I am going to wait for the next charts to come out and then probably revise the forecasts around that time. This cold front will not bring anything too big regardless of what ends up happening, but it stil could bring in some scattered rain showers and thunderstorms overnight Sunday and into early Monday morning in the western half of the region.

The only other tricky thing about this system is going to be what happens once it passes. Mainly, the temperatures are going to be a bit tricky for Monday and if it comes in the form of a cold front, then temps will be lower, but if it just ends up being a semi-noticable vorticy wave of low pressure...well, then temps will remain warm and above normal. Hence another reason why the extended forecasts will be revised around Noon today.

Otherwise, nothing much on the horizon in the world of weather in our half of the region right now as that ridge of high pressure will really be a key player and might even allow for temperatures to remain above average for a few more days into next week. I'll type more about all this later. For now, that's the weather!
