WHAT IS BEING TRACKED: Low pressure to move into the region tomorrow and Friday. Rain first, then snow.
07 May 2012
Surface low pressure over Illinois this morning is going to move towards the western half of the region today. This low pressure is going to be dragging a cold front with it, however the cold front will not enter the region until tomorrow, so we have plenty of time for the storms in the region to continue to develop and move towards the region. Already seeing some nice convection taking place over the Fort Wayne and Toledo areas this morning. Most of the storms are regular, no warnings save for a flood warning over near Angola, Indiana, but otherwise things are generally normal for now. The storms aren't moving fast in the western half of the region either. I am seeing a lot of "outflow developing" storms and training effect happening in the western half of the region.
As these storms move slowly, cool air is coming out of the storms from the rain. This cool air is travelling to the east ahead of the storms and that is mixing with the warmer air already in place...and thus...we're seeing a somewhat "training" or "outflow" effect. So where the storms are is where new storms are also developing. A good example right now is NW Ohio. We have some storms in NE Indiana which pushed out some cooler air and that air travelled into NW Ohio and fired up some new storms.
Now the storms are going to quiet down later this morning and early afternoon in the western half of the region. However this afternoon we'll pick up some nice storms in the region, some of which could be strong with very gusty winds and some small hail. The storms are going to move ahead of the cold front and they'll be fun to watch and track. I'll type more about them later.
Majority of the extended forecasts are up and postd on the site so be sure that you check those out. I'll keep you updated as always, my next update will be around Noon. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's th weather!
