Noon Update

As far as the present weather is concerned in the region right now…not a whole lot is happening. In fact, looking at the visible satellite this afternoon, things are clear from Cleveland, down to St. Louis and all the way back into the Canadian Rockies. Now, that isn’t to say that nothing in the future lies ahead, but for right now…things are generally fairly boring. There is some excitement happening down to the south and east of the region in the Appalachians right now:

A surface low pressure is moving northeast towards Pennsylvania, and that is creating some decent rain showers for those along the Atlantic coast. The low does have some cloud cover with it, and those clouds are skirting by the eastern half of the region – barely – this afternoon, and could periodically cover the skies for a little bit. However, in the mid levels of the atmosphere, some drier air has seeped inward over the lake, so that might actually help create a buffer zone of cloud-free conditions this afternoon for places like Erie and Buffalo. If the clouds become too much, there is still the off chance that a stray rain shower – a light one – could break away from the rain shield over central Pennsylvania, but that is a small chance, I’ll type more about that later.

Right now, the most interesting aspect of the weather is going to be late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning in the region. A weak cold front is going to push down from the north; however the timing of it will be a little bit on the weird side. I am also curious as to the amount of moisture it could have, which looks to be limited at this time – so that is going to be something that I will keep an eye on this evening when I revise the forecasts. The chances are mainly going to be widely scattered rain showers, but if things go the way the cold front would like, there could be a few storms get into the mix (but as for strong storms, nah, I am not expecting any of that at this point).

The rain showers and possible storms will be widely scattered as mentioned, and the biggest thing from this front will be the cloud cover. The cloud cover might also hinder the development of decent storms, but that too is something that I’ll type more about later this evening.

Once that front passes through the region (it’ll clear the western half of the region by Wednesday morning, and the eastern half of the region by Wednesday evening) then another broad area of high pressure will set up in the region and keep the weather calm and clear for the majority of the weekend. However, towards the end of the weekend, like Sunday night and into Monday morning, we’re going to watch another cold front swing through the region and this cold front could once again give us some rain showers and maybe a decent shot at some rain showers. I’ll type more about that later.

So, right now, things generally going smoothly across the region; a mainly clear day for most with some clouds in the eastern half of the region this afternoon. My next update will not be until this evening, so make sure that you check back for that. For now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather!
