Snow falling in the western half of the region this morning, however, the snow fall totals won't be that great as the system is going to be quick moving and the temperatures will be hovering between 31 and 34 throughout the morning hours - which is going to be tricky for the snow to stick. Regardless, we'll go with generally under an inch of accumulation in the western half of the region which should melt off later today. The skies will clear this evening and we're going to with mostly clear skies for the majority of the region, and some cooler temperatures compared to what we've been seeing. Before I go any further, I want to give a shout out to Kirstin Ridgley, a person who has been following Great Lakes Weather since November 2010, today Kirstin turns 18, so happy birthday! Now back to the weather:Low pressure system responsible for this is moving to the southwest of the region and this system will remain to the south of the region. High pressure will block this high pressure from advancing too far north, however Fort Wayne could pick up a chance rain/snow shower today from the system, and Toledo will be picking up a chance for snow showers as well, otherwise the region is going to be oddly quiet as a high pressure comes down a little bit and holds itself into the region.
High pressure is going to dominate the regional weather through the weekend and into the start of next week, however we're going to watch the weather become a little bit interesting over the course of the week as a broad upper level trough pushes to the north of the region and allows for a few short waves to move along it.
The waves of low pressure will be enough to produce some snow showers in the region, however those snow showers aren't looking like they'll amount too much and the temperatures aren't going to get very low either. However, there is going to be a low presure system and then a cold front which is going to push through the region towards Thursday, and this will give us a good shot at some snow showers, but unfortunetly the snow fall won't be that great either.
Cold front will attempt another lake effect event in the eastern half of the region and this is something that I am going to watching throughout the afternoon today to see if it'll happen on Thursday. Otherwise, the weather in the region is rather straight forward and not that tricky. In fact the only tricky part to the forecasts will be the clouds which will hinder the temperatures a little bit. Otherwise, high pressure really playing dominance in the region.
Due to the fact that I am not expecting that I will have to change the forecasts a whole lot today, I am not going to have a Noon Update like I normally would. However, I will have a brief update coming up around 5.00 p.m. and then I'll be revising those forecasts if necessary around that time as well. I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
