Weather across the region today is going to become rather active and unsettled over the next couple of days as a cold front will push across the region and then upper level trough will usher in cooler temperatures.
Cold front will push through the region this afternoon and this is going to start dropping temperatures evenly from the west to east. The western half of the region is going to be seeing their highs occur this morning but once that front passes they will drop - naturally. The eastern half of the region is going to be seeing their highs occur at the usual tinme - in the afternoon - but then the front is going to pass through and that is going to really kick up some lake effect snow showers.
Now the introduction of the upper level trough in the western half of the region will be responsible for the scattered snow showers for tonight and tomorrow. The snow showers will generally be light, but if enough of them form between tonight and tomorrow we could be seeing about an inch of snow in the western half of the region if we're lucky. At the same time, the upper level trough and the passage of the front will work together in ushering in some much cooler temperatures into the western half of the region. The wild card over there though will be the cloud cover and just how much that will effect the overnight lows in the western half of the region, but for now we'll keep where it is at.
In the eastern half of the region, the passage of the front is going to drag over some much cooler temepratures over the still warm lake waters. With the tight pressure gradient over the region, winds for everybody will be strong and gusty out of the NW which means that cool air is going to blow right over the inland areas of Erie and Buffalo and even Cleveland will get in on it. This means - lake effect snow. Snow showers will be heavy at times and could be long lasting. How much lake effect snow...the usual amount. About 9-16 inches will be falling in Erie between tonight and Tuesday, but that is usual. Other places like Cleveland and Buffalo wont see as much, but about 3-7 inches will be possible in that area during the same time peroid. Again, I might up that up a little bit later this morning, depending on what the front does this morning.
Otherwise, the next topic will be the winds and cool temperatures. The change of air will happen rather quickly, so we're going to be seeing some wind chills finally. Today the winds will start off somewhat gusty out of the SW, but once that front passes, the winds will increase and come out of the NW. The winds will be gusting about 40mph, maybe even higher, tomorrow and tomomorrow night. And with the low temperatures...windchills come and will be down around 0°.
Otherwise, once this system passes through the region, warm advection from the flow of the next ridge will enter the region. I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you. My next update will be between 10.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. this morning.
