I haven’t made any changes to the forecasts right now as not all of the models are updated at the forecast time. Some of them are, and they have been plotted – if any of you remember from last winter when I used sticky notes and a map, well I’ve updated graded to dry erase markers and a lamentated map. Regional weather is a little bit more clearer than I expected, but I will not be changing the forecasts just because I haven’t gone over the short term and surface analysis so I’ll just revise them later this afternoon when I post the nightly forecasts.
Now remember that low pressure system I was telling you all about this morning? Well there is a good possibility that it will be a nice one. I am still waiting for the CMC, ECMWF and UKMET…not so much the NOGAPS…to come out to see what they say, but the GFS has been turning more towards the latter over the past few updates and with the consistancy the ECMWF and CMC have shown, I am expecting that they will be close to – if not a ditto – to the GFS model run.
I am not so much concerned with time right now when forecasting this system, because the bulk of charts and analysis’ are in a fair agreement. It is the temperatures that I am worried about. Those temps will be on that rule of thumb I have – 38° snow, 39° rain – and whether or not the cool pool of air will be brought down quick enough I am still working on. For now, I want to go with my normal pre-January instincts and give this system the classic New England rider course, but I am just going to wait an extra couple hours before I do that.
I am not going to be revising the forecasts yet, and I probably will not do so until this evening – mainly in observance of the Christmas Holiday and a little afternoon break before I go forecasting crazy on this next system. Ha-ha.
I’ll keep you updated though if anything changes and I’ll revise those extended forecasts late this afternoon or early this evening. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
