Let is snow...

The snow showed up…it would’ve been nice two days ago, but better late than never I guess. Snow showers out and around the western half of the region right now and they are falling rather moderately in those locations. Temperatures are still hovering just above freezing, but the low pressure centre off to the east of those locations, it’ll start pulling that cooler air westward which is going to drop the temperatures (naturally) and hopefully this will happen soon enough that we can start picking up some accumulations in the western half of the region.

The eastern half of the region right now is still seeing rain showers however late this afternoon, around sunset, the low pressure will pass off to the east of you guys and that is going to turn those rain showers over to snow showers. The winds will also start to blow off the lake and this will happen this evening. Those winds are going to be rather cool which is going to allow for the 850-mb to fall to about -15°C thus allowing for lake effect snow showers to occur. The lake effect snow showers are going to be decent with about 2-4 inches (locally 5) of snow in the snow belt areas tonight through tomorrow morning.

A high pressure is going to start building in the western half of the region this evening and this is going to make the snow showers cease. It will also start to clear the skies in the western half of the region, thus allowing for none other than overnight lows to drop to about 20° tonight – which is good for late December. The high pressure will not start to effect the eastern half of the region until tomorrow afternoon, so you guys are going to have to wait for that weather to calm down.

High pressure will remain the dominant features for the next day or two in the region and this is going to keep us calm.

But for now, snow showers and winter like weather across the region as a much welcomed low pressure makes its presense know. I’ll keep you updated as always, and I’ll have another update this evening, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
