No major changes to the forecasts right now, mainly just a few adjustments to the times tomorrow. I did bring some snow chances into the evening for places in the region, but otherwise nothing much. So how is tomorrow going to shape up? Well it will be a busy weather day as a low pressure slides to the south and east of the region.Upper level low pressure making its way out of the southern Plains this evening and it will try to move ahead of an upper level trough moving through the northern Plains. However, the trough will be a bit faster and it will bump into the back of the upper low. The upper low will also be – as it already is – develop a low pressure at the surface and this low will stay to the south and east of the region tomorrow.
Low pressure will drag its precip into the region, introducing it into the western half of the region late tonight and by noon tomorrow in the eastern half of the region. Now the rule will generally be same throughout the region: it’ll start off as a wintry mix with some rain showers thrown into the mix, but then it’ll turn over to snow.
In the western half of the region, we’re going to start off with scattered rain showers and then rain/snow showers by sunrise tomorrow. The mix will then become all snow, more than likely before 9.00 a.m. and then it will be snow showers likely throughout the late morning through the afternoon. The snow showers will then start tapering off in the evening and the skies will clear as high pressure builds in the region.
The eastern half of the region is going to see things a tad bit differently tomorrow as the system will be a few hours late. The precip there will start off as mainly rain showers and those will arrive tomorrow morning – more than likely after 9.00 a.m. – and then in the late afternoon it wil finally switch over to snow. The snow showers in the east will be likely throughout the evening, but then it will start to taper off…however as the low pressure hooks a turn to the New England area, it will usher in cooler air over the lake and this will cause a brief and minor lake effect on Wednesday morning.
As far as accumulations are concerned for tomorrow in the region? The wild car will be the temperatures which will hang out anywhere between 31° and 34° tomorrow. This will be the difference between accumulation and melting on impact. Now the snow will accumulate in the region, that is almost certain, and the majority of the region will see about 1-3 inches (the difference in temp will determine who gets an inch and who gets 3-inches). There will be no accumulation tonight nor early tomorrow morning, but the accumulation will really start happening late tomorrow morning through early tomorrow afternoon.
So a fun, typical system for the region. It should make things interesting.
I’ll have an update coming up tomorrow morning starting at 4.30 a.m. and I’ll keep you updated throughout the morning. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather! Keep checking back updates because I’ll have them for you as always.
