Some promising looking weather on the way for Christmas in the region, but before we go into that, lets get to the weather for tonight. Upper trough doing well as it passes through the region this evening. It is doing a little better than I had expected, but still there isn’t much accumulation. Looks like the majority of the region will see under an inch of total snow fall between now and tomorrow morning. Skies will start to clear out in the western half of the region around midnight tonight and tomorrow should be a fairly calm day throughout the entire region – despite a few lingering snow showers in the eastern half of the region. There is some bad news…but then again there is some good news. Looking over the latest charts, it appears that the low pressure system that we’re going to see in the region on Tuesday-Wednesday won’t bring us snow, I am still going to hold on for a small possibility of a brief mix towards the end backside of this system…this is the bad news.
Now for the good news. When the low pressure drags its front through the region on Wednesday evening and Thursday. A second, low will pass to the north of the region and drag its own cold front through the region and this is going to allow for a high pressure to develop along an advancing trough of low pressure. This will bring cooler weather into the region. But then Friday evening we’re going to watch an upper level trough, much like the one we saw today, swing through the region and this will be bring a chance for some [drumroll]…it starts with an S and sound like the word “know”. If you guessed “slow” then you are wrong, but if you guessed “snow” then you are correct. Now before you get your hopes up, just remember that this is still 6 days out, so I’ll be monitoring it with full attention, but for right now (knock on wood) having a somewhat white Christmas is looking possible. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best chances for snow, I am going to give Friday a 6.
I’ll have more information on this system as well as the system for Wednesday coming up tomorrow morning around 6.00 a.m. I did add a quick forecast Friday on the extended forecasts, so be sure that you check those out. Those will also be updated tomorrow morning as well. I’ll keep you updated, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that’s the weather!
