Rainy days

The next couple of days here across the region will be rainy ones...but it wont be a complete washout. We're going to see scattered rain showers across the region for a good chunk of tomorrow and the first part of Saturday as a trough of low pressure and a low pressure system move towards the region.

Late tonight and tomorrow morning we're going to watch that low pressure form out of the Plain's and it is going to have a warm front that will extend out to the Tennessee area. This warm front is going to located there in the morning, and then it will slowly, yet gradually, move up northward through the day tomorrow. This accompanied by a mid level trough of low pressure will be giving us some rain showers during late tonight (in the western regions) and tomorrow.

Right now, we're seeing those rain showers moving towards the Chicago area, so we should stay dry in Fort Wayne and Toledo until about midnight. We'll then see those scattered rain showers move into the Fort Wayne, Toledo and possibly the Detroit areas by the very early morning hours and into the day tomorrow. The rain showers will mostly be light, but a few moderate rain showers will join the mix. For right now, this system looks as though it'll be a rain event for tomorrow. But it will get better, just wait.

So, remember that warm front I was just typing about. Well it is going to effect us. Tomorrow wont be a very warm day but once that warm front passes tomorrow night in the southern part of the region, those temps are going to rise overnight tomorrow, and that is going to be accompanied by an approaching cold front. This cold front will be tailing from the low pressure system (the one from the Plain's) and that cold front is going to move through the region very early Saturday morning for Fort Wayne and Toledo.

Now Friday night into Saturday morning is the best chance for seeing storms...some of the storms might "strong" however that chance is a very low for me right now. Even the SPC is thinking that the majority of the strong storms will down in the Indianapolis region (so south of the region). The only place I am thinking that will see some of those stronger type storms will be Fort Wayne, and Toledo might possibly see a single one or possibly a second one. The biggest threat will really just be strong gusty winds.

So lets go over a timeline now shall we:

Low pressure trough moves through the region late tonight and tomorrow, that will bring scattered rain showers to the area. Most of them will be just be rain showers with some embedded storms.

Tomorrow afternoon, I am thinking that there could be a brief break in the western part of the region with those rain showers, however the eastern part of the forecast area could still see those scattered rain showers.

Tomorrow night, those temps are going to rise as that warm front moves up from the south. That will make the air unstable and we could see a chance for rain showers and storms in the western part of the region. A slight chance for a strong storm, but most of the storms that we get will just be regular type storms.

Saturday morning, storms and rain showers likely in the Fort Wayne and Toledo area as that cold front begins to move through the region. Once that cold front passes, the chances of precip will pretty much end for the afternoon at least. Chance of storms for Cleveland by the early morning hours, and Erie could also get some of storms and rain showers by the mid morning hours.

Saturday night, a brief break in the rain showers, however another system is going to get ready to move through the region.

So a rainy start to the day tomorrow, and then rainy and possibly stormy overnight tomorrow and Saturday morning. Again, I am thinking that there will be a brief break Saturday afternoon in those rain showers, but that will be something that I will have to keep an eye on.

So, there have been some questions lately over what some of our terms here at the GLWX mean. Now you see these terms on some other networks, however here at the GLWX we use those terms in differnt ways however. Let me type about them for a moment.

The term scattered this time of the year is going to be used quite a bit. Scattered means that there will be precip, however it wont effect the entire region. Scattered means they will be there, however they wont effect everybody. Scattered is also parallel to the term "off and on" which means that they wont be there all day, but they will be there one minute...then go away...and then a new one will come.

Isolated is a term that I will rarely use in the forecasts. The term isolated means "pop up". I will only use isolated when typing about storms. This will be known in the middle of the summer, when it will be humid and hot, and we could get a single pop up storm somewhere in the forecasted area. It doesn't mean cancel your plans, but it means to keep an eye on those clouds because you might see a pop up storm form in the region. Pop up storms are generally short lived, non strong and they travel short distances.

Likely is a term meaning what it sounds like...I expect it to happen.

Possible is a term that means what it sounds...I expect that it will happen, but something could stop it from happening.

So those are some of the weather terms we use here in the GLWX and they should be known, and we will use them so now you know what they mean. But it always pays to read the posts...whether they be long or short, because usually I explain more in depth than what the extended forecasts will hold.

So coming up in the morning, I'll be typing about the rain showers that will be effecting us tomorrow and what we can see in terms of weather activity for tomorrow night and Saturday. Again, I am not expecting much from them, just a few storms here and there and a few more scattered rain showers. So read those extended forecasts so you know what you'll be getting. I will also be updating those extended forecasts in the morning as always.

I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
