20° above average

Across much of the region today, temperatures will be anywhere from 10°-20° above average. For example, the normal high temperature in Fort Wayne is 47° and today we'll see highs in the mid 60's, so I would consider that well above average as far as temperatures are concerned.

The reason for all this is that we have a high pressure down in the southern part of the country, and that will literally push all this warm air from the south up our way. Hence, why I am also thinking that it will be rather breezy at least in the southern part of the country.

(High pressure in the southern part of the country pushing warmer air up our way, assisted by the warm front up in Wisconsin).

Now for those of you up in Green Bay, you're probably wondering where this rain is coming from. That is a simple answer: You have a low pressure that will pass to your north later this afternoon, and that will bring you guys the chance for some rain showers throughout the day today. High temps in Green Bay wont be as warm as everybody else, however Green Bay will be about 15° above average, seeing as how the normal high for this time of year is only 40°.

Now, one of the things most of you might be noticing with the extended forecasts is quite a few chances for some scattered rain showers over the next couple days. And in fact, I'll be keeping scattered rain showers in the forecast for part of next week as well. One of the things about this time of year is that two air masses (warm and cold) are fighting for control of the region. This happens in the spring time and again in the fall time. This time however, we know the warm will win for right now. But with all this mixing of the air, and all these weather systems crossing through the region, we'll be seeing some decent chances of rain with them.

Also, not only do we see several chances for rain as every low pressure system from here to Oklahoma passes through the region, but this also allows us to see these sharp temperature contrasts. Later next week we'll be falling back to the 40's for a high, but not before we see 60° in some places. I'll use this weekend as an example:

Toledo will see a high in the mid 60's today, as well as tomorrow. However, on Saturday, high temps will drop back down into the upper 40's as the next system rolls though. This will also give them a chance of rain tomorrow as well. But then by Monday, temps will go back into the 60's and then the next system (one of the many from here to Oklahoma) will cross through and push temps back down into the 40's for a high. Interesting huh? Oh well.

So, sharp temperature contrasts and a good chance for rain showers these next days, and possibly for the next week or two, as those two air masses are going to fight for control of the Great Lakes region.

I'll keep you updated as always, but for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them for you as always.
