The usual

Well, not a whole lot going on right now in terms of weather. The front has passed through most of the region already, only Erie and Buffalo haven't had the front pass through. Ahead of this front, light rain showers being reported, but not as much as I originally expected, but oh well. Behind the front, there still appears to be some cloud cover across much of the Great Lakes region, so we can expect those clouds to hang around for possibly the next 12-16 hours.

However tomorrow, most of the region will begin to see some clearing in the skies and a bit cooler temperatures. The high pressure will occupy the region for the day tomorrow, so that'll give us a brief break in the weather world.

But what I am watching is the next system work its way into the region. We here in the Great Lakes region could be getting some snow. Now, this system will really only effect the southern Great Lakes cities, Green Bay will probably miss out on most of this action. A snow system is going to come out of the central Plain's and generally move eastward around the high pressure (which is up in the Minnesota area). The location of the high pressure will be somewhat important to the amount of snow that we'll be seeing. But basically this system will try to "loop" so-to-type, around the high pressure. The best of this weather system will pass to the south of us, but places like Toledo, Fort Wayne and Detroit could get maybe 1-2 inches from it.

We call these kinds of weather systems "Upper Level Disturbances" and I doubt any of you want me to go into the physics of an upper level disturbance...so I wont, though I would like to.

Depending on how far south the system will go will obviously determine the amount of snow we'll be seeing, but for now, it is safe to say that Toledo, Fort Wayne and Detroit, as well as Erie will be seeing snow from this system. Not a whole lot really, maybe about 1-2 inches of total snow fall accumulation from this system if you're in Fort Wayne and Toledo.

Once this system slides past the region on Thursday evening, really cool air will take control of the area. On Friday, Toledo and Fort Wayne will see highs only near 15° and Detroit might see highs in the low teens. But, Friday night will most likely be the chilly night as we could see lows around 0° for the above mentioned. Erie, probably wont see that cool of temperatures because the low will pass way to your south, and the high will be too far south of you to give you numbers that low. So for Erie, I'd say lows around 10-15° on Friday night.

So, for the western and central Great Lakes region, these next couple of days are going to be interesting. A brief break tomorrow, then back to some snow showers on Thursday and then we'll be in some really cool air by Friday and Friday night. Naturally and as usual I'll be keeping you updated on this weather and other weather as always. You can also check the extended forecasts on the right side of this site. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates.
