Well, as I told my email clients this morning, I am little hesitant to put out the snow fall totals this early in advance, as things may change. However, the NWS has posted winter storm watches for a good chunk of the region already (remember, you can see watches and warnings below the extended forecast) so I figured I might as well start putting some snow fall totals to my forecasts.
Now, because the Great Lakes region is large and this storm will impact different places at different times, it is going to be a little hard to make this post easy to understand. And to make it even harder, there will be two seperate systems which will also impact at different times.
This afternoon will consist of nothing more than me sitting down and working on the times and fine tuning my snow fall total predictions, so if your questions aren't answered this morning, I do advise you to check the site this afternoon as I will be posting frequently.
First off, we're going to see our first system move into the region tomorrow. But the snow wont really arrive until late afternoon. The places that are going to get it first will be Toledo and Fort Wayne. Now, this system wont be a record breaker, but it might give the people of Toledo and Fort Wayne 1-3 inches of snow between tomorro evening and Tuesday morning.
There will be a brief break in between that as Toledo and Fort Wayne will go into scattered snow shower mode Tuesday afternoon. But the snow will come back later in the evening.
Tuesday night, is when we'll see those snow showers return for the above mentioned, and they'll pick up another 2-4 inches between Tuesday night and Wedneday morning, maybe a little less or maybe a little more.
Wednesday the system will kick into high gear for the region, as we'll see the pressure at its strongest during this time. We'll see snow likely from Fort Wayne all the way up to Buffalo at this time. Now, there could be some mixing with sleet and freezing rain, but in general this will mostly be a snow event.
Now, I am sure that a lot of you are wonderning why I haven't mentioned the other locations? Simple, to get this post on time, I didn't have time to finalize a forecast for those places. Now, this afternoon, I will mention all places and give a complete run down for everyone in the Great Lakes region. But do know this...
Green Bay will see the least amount of snow fall from these two systems. Green Bay will be farther away. Buffalo, Jacob is working on the snow fall totals, and he should have those made up either tonight or tomorrow morning. Erie, you'll get snow from this system, but I am not expecting any lake effect snow behind it. Detroit, you'll see some snow fall totals, only a little less than what Toledo will be seeing.
So, winter storm watches posted for a good chunk of the area already, looking at probably the best chance for snow this whole season. It wont be a wipeout nor will it be another Blizzard of 1978, but it will be enough to give us a decent shot of snow.
There will be wind behind this system along with cooler air temps, so we'll see blowing and drifting snow possible as well as windchills below 0°.
I'll keep you up to date as always, and like I typed, starting this afternoon I'll be updating you all quite a bit. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I sure will have them.
