Forecasting is like a giant cube. When I first make a forecast that goes 5 days out, it is like a giant sharp cube. Now, lets say you want me to make you a perfect sphere out of the cube. Well, I know I have five days to make it -- stay with me -- so each day that passes I'll cut the cube more and more until...BAMM!!...you have giant sphere that you'll have no idea what the hell to do with. That is how this forecast has gone. Picture that sphere as this forecast -- you have seen this forecast over the past five days getting edited and fixed and now it's time for my final revision of this system. Hurray, place all bets now!
This system will not be a record breaker, and you're going to notice a large gap of numbers in this forecast. Why is that? you ask. Well, let me explain quickly before we go any further...and this information will help you in life. Ok, water expands about 8% when it freezes. If this was to be a summer time system, it'd be all rain. If you turn this snow into rain, we'd only be getting 0.52 - 1.2 inches of rain. So not really much. Why people panic during snow, I will never know why. But really, this system will do nothing more than add to our yearly precip, but it wont even be noticed by the end of the season (for rain value that is). If you actually made it this far in the post, congrats! You have my undying graditude.
Now, tomorrow will be a calm day across the region for the most part. We'll see those watches turned into advisories and warnings, but aside from that, the weather wont effect us a whole lot. Green Bay, you're going to miss out so you might as well not even read this whole thing. Increasing clouds during the day tomorrow across much of the region. Toledo, Fort Wayne and Detroit, this evenings post will be directed at you.
Tomorrow, increasing clouds in the above mentioned. We'll see highs in the mid to upper 20's across those area. Erie you too will get in on this cloud action.
It'll be tomorrow night that the weather will start getting rough. Around 6 p.m. tomorrow evening, I am calling for scattered snow showers. Then, after midnight, those snow showers will turn steady. I wont give exact time totals in this post, check the extended forecast for those.
Tuesday is like Level 2 of the System Game. We'll see steady snow showers throughout the day, and some of those bands could become moderate, so do watch out for those. We'll see a good chunk of our total snow fall between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Tuesday evening, things continue to go down hill as we'll see temps near the single digits and winds starting to increase. Wind chills will go down into the single digits around 0° towards morning.
Wednesday, this is the 3rd and final level of the System Game. We'll see blowing snow as those winds increase. Windchills will be at or around 0° for most of the morning. We'll still see those steady snow showers, especially in the morning hours and early afternoon hours for Detroit, Fort Wayne and Toledo.
Wednesday evening, as quickly as it came it'll leave. We'll see those steady snow showers tapering into scattered snow showers by the evening hours. Then it'll go into scattered snow shower mode up until midnight.
Thursday we'll see blowing snow still, and gusty winds. Highs will only be in the mid teens if that. Skies will begin to clear in the afternoon and we'll see those winds chills really drop to at or below 0° for much of the day.
Thursday night we'll go into the low single digits for a low, and possibly below 0° if things continue to go as planned.
So, total snow fall predictions for my selected forecast cities:
Toledo: 7-15 inches.
Fort Wayne: 6-12 inches
Erie: 5-12 inches. Erie, we didn't type about you much, however I do advice you to check the extended forecasts because that will tell you everything you need to know.
So, as far as travel...if you're going to be flying out of Chicago, Cleveland and/or Detroit...you might as well not even go to the airport if your flight is on Tuesday or Wednesday.
I'll keep you updated on this system as always, as well as other weather across the region. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson, whose been looking at weather charts all afternoon, and that's the weather! Keep checking back for updates because I'll have them all through tomorrow.
