We have a strong low pressure located in South Dakota, and it is being helped by a second and strong low in Kansas. The first low should die out later today, however the second low pressure in Kansas will be the one to watch for, right now it is at 983 mbs. This low will race NE towards Minnesota and that will be responsible for our warmer weather today and the next couple days. Lets go through a timeline of what I expect to see happen these next days.
Today: Warmer weather will be in the Great Lakes region today, most places will see temperatures around 40° for a high. Rain showers will be likely in places like Green Bay, Detroit, Toledo and Fort Wayne and possibly Erie could get in on some of the rain action.
Tomorrow: This is when things get interesting. A lot of places could see highs near 50° however our front will begin to really form and this will cause rain showers for a good chunk of the region.
Tomorrow Night: Green Bay will have the front pass through. Green Bay will have lows down into the lower 20's and it could get a bit breezy for them. Otherwise, the other places along the Great Lakes region will just see cloudy skies and rain showers with lows into the lower 40's.
New Years Day (Saturday): Rain showers will be heavy mostly from Fort Wayne through the Erie area. Fort Wayne will get most of their rain showers in the morning hours, because by the afternoon Jacob and I expect the front to pass through. That means for the people of Fort Wayne, by noon you could get into the upper 40's however by the afternoon your temps will drop into the mid 30's. It might get a bit windy for you guys behind the front. There could be a few snow showers behind the front, however nothing will accumulate.
Saturday Night: The front will make its way through Toledo and Detroit by the early evening, this means that temperatures will drop into the lower 20's overnight, and wind could be the biggest factor. With winds gusting to possibly around 40 mph, you could see windchills 0° if not below that. There could be a few snow showers possible in that area as well, but again, nothing will stick.
Sunday: Green Bay, Toledo, Fort Wayne and Detroit will clear out for the most part, however it could still be windy - especially for Toledo, Detroit and Fort Wayne. Temperatures for you guys will be in the 30's and 20's. Now, Erie will begin to expierence the front early in the morning, and this means that some snow showers could be possible in the morning, but nothing will accumulate.
Sunday Night: Most places will have had the front pass through them and we'll be back into our winter temperatures.
So, warm ahead of the front as always, then turning much cooler behind it. Mostly it'll be a rain event turned into a windy time afterwards. So lets recap quickly of what times I expect the front to pass through:
Green Bay: Tomorrow night/early Saturday morning
Fort Wayne: Saturday afternoon
Toledo: Saturday evening
Detroit: Saturday evening
Erie: Saturday night/early Sunday morning
Buffalo: Sunday morning
So keep checking back for updates, Jacob and I will keep you up to date on this somewhat interesting system as it works its way through the region. But for now, I am Timmy Albertson and that's the weather!
